Hearts in San Francisco - Open Heart

Open Heart, located at the Bay End of The PIER, welcomes all guests to PIER 39. Hand-painted by local artist Patrick Dintino. Open Heart symbolizes the openness of our city’s heart, as well as the idea of falling in love with and leaving your heart in San Francisco. The sculpture is part of San Francisco General Hospital Foundation’s 2014 “Hearts of San Francisco” collection that supports the vital programs and initiatives of San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. #PIER39
This statue in the Hearts in San Francisco series is called Open Heart and was made by artist Patrick Dintino in 2014 (the year the series started). You can find it at the end of Pier 39 on Fisherman’s Wharf, where it gets a lot of attention.

I recommend shooting pics from both sides, as both the wooden pier as the bay make beautiful backdrops.

You can even capture the heart with Alcatraz visible behind it, but I decided to not press my luck in the cluster of folks that were already trying to get that shot.

The Hearts in San Francisco statues may move around, but from the way this plaque looks, Open Heart has been in this place for a while already. :)
