The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s (SFMOMA) building on 151 Third Street opened its doors back in 1995. When you come in on the ground floor it’s hard not to notice the giant atrium that stretches up all seven floors of the museum. If you look up, you might even spot… movement in the sky.

This is the Oculus Bridge and it spans the fifth floor of the museum. The giant circular sky light above the bridge provides plenty of daylight, and is also one of the attractions of the SFMOMA that you can see from the outside.

Once you get closer to the sky bridge you really can’t miss the artwork that has been installed on it since 2007-2008: Olafur Eliasson’s One-way colour tunnel.

From close up it looks pretty simple, but the views it affords make the sky bridge even more spectacular.

Despite its name, you can traverse the sky bridge from either side of the atrium. The floor of the bridge is a mesh that you can somewhat see through, so depending on whether you’re afraid of heights: don’t (forget to) look down!
