I read Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman late last year. Upon posting my review some folks said that his second memoir was better, so I decided to read this one too.
This book is split into two main parts: “What Do You Care What Other People Think?” and “Mr. Feynman Goes to Washington”. The first part is similar in style to his first book, but focuses more on his relationship with his wife Arline. It centers on his time working in Los Alamos, as she was slowly dying of tuberculosis in a “nearby” hospital. The second part recounts Feynman’s role on the Rogers Commission investigating the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, including his famous demonstration about the O-ring failure.
I liked this book better than his first memoir, largely because each part felt more like a single narrative. Three and a half stars, rounded up.
