A few years ago I started watching the TV series Daisy Jones & The Six, which is based on this book. I stopped after the episode where Camila catches Billy cheating while on tour. The show was fascinating and the music was great, but I didn’t enjoy that type of conflict.
Well… I loved the audiobook version of Daisy Jones & The Six. The story is told through interview fragments with the key players, which gives it a great cadence and creates a very natural mix of perspectives - honestly enough to make you want to punch Eddie at least once. It uses full cast narration, meaning each character is voiced by a different actor. This makes it feel like you’re listening to real interviews with the characters, though I also did like how they say their names at the start of each section when they first speak. That’s clearly a holdover from the printed book, but it also worked well in the audio format to reintroduce each voice.
The story itself is a real page-turner, with a somewhat anticlimactic reveal (oh my… the interviewer is Julia <mild shock>), and a satisfying ending. Overall, while I somewhat missed the music from the TV show, I didn’t miss the visuals at all, and loved this one.
